All the Food Safety Auditor accreditations, flexibility and affordability you need
All the accreditations you are likely to need in a food safety lead auditor course are included. By choosing a course with Units of Competency, Exemplar Global Certification, National Food Safety Auditor (NFSA) recognition and SQFI lead auditor training, you are removing the hurdles to become a state-approved food safety auditor and a food safety auditor for a certification body. You want a Lead Auditor course that is jam packed with accreditations.
Our students have become SQF auditors, Freshcare auditors, HACCP auditors and state-approved based auditors. Others have undertaken the responsibility of managing supplier audits for their company. We continue to support and hear from our Auditor alumni regularly. We love hearing about which certification body they are working with and what types of audits they are conducting.
At QMS Audits, our course has been broken into two portions, Food Safety Internal Auditor (2 days) and Food Safety Lead Auditor Extensions (3 days). This means you can complete our training in two bite size pieces, making our Lead Auditor course more affordable and easier to manage amongst work and other commitments. Alternatively, you can complete both courses consecutively, across 5 days, if you are looking to get the course done quickly and become an auditor as soon as possible.
For our students looking to undergo our Cook Chill course (FDPAUB5002 – Audit a Cook Chill Process), you will need to complete the following units of competency:
FBPAUD4002 – Communicate and negotiate to conduct food safety audits
FBPAUD4003 – Conduct food safety audits
FBPAUD4004 – Identify, evaluate and control food safety hazards
We deliver cook chill training every 2 months. See the table below for upcoming training dates or see our upcoming course HERE. If you have any questions about the course or unsure if you meet the prerequisites please email: [email protected]
We often get asked if there are assessments to be done after class. The answer is ‘Of course, there are assessments to be completed at home!’ If you are considering another training provider who does not offer assessments to be completed outside of class, then it is unlikely they are an RTO.
Our Food Safety Lead Auditor course has been designed to give our auditor alumni as much practical, hands-on experience with reviewing and auditing documents as possible before they even get near a paying client.
No matter how much information, coaching and support you are given in class, it is imperative prospective auditors be given desk audits and similar activities to work through at home, where they can think, analyse and understand the audit process.
We love watching our students grow into auditors across the 5 days in the classroom. As trainers, celebrate with them, when they send in their final piece of assessment. It is great to watch and extremely rewarding.

The Lead Auditor Program has also been designed to offer flexibility. As a modular course, you can undertake each module separately or as one consecutive 5 day course. The modules are Internal Auditor – Food Safety (2 days) and Lead Auditor Extension – Food Safety (3 days).

Course overview...
Students will gain a practical understanding of the responsibilities of an auditor. Studying ISO 22000, Food Safety Management and using ISO 19011 to develop the skills of an auditor, students will also:
- Assess compliance with food safety programs
- Communicate and negotiate to conduct food safety audits
- Conduct food safety audits
- Identify, evaluate and control food safety hazards
There are a few other requirements which you will need to adhere to. It is recommended students conduct their own research for each type of audit they intend to conduct. For more information regarding this please see the following links:
Exemplar Global is an organisation that certifies people (as opposed to certifying organisations).

For further explanation of the Exemplar Global Personal Certification Program, please email Suzi Gomesz – [email protected]. We recommend you contact SQF, BRC and Freshcare directly to find out how to become an auditor and what their requirements are.
Department of Health – State by state:
In each state there is a series of approved auditors by the Department of Health. These auditors are used to conduct a range of compliance food safety auditors, for example in Victoria, these auditors conduct food safety audits on Class 1 facilities, such as childcare centres, hospitals and aged care facilities. It is recommended you contact each state to find out what the requirements are, however some information can be found on these websites. All of the requirements include the units of competency which we offer. What we have provided is to assist you with some of the research. Some examples of this can be found below.
- Victoria: Click here.
- Queensland: Click here.
- New South Wales: Click here.
- Western Australia (Please note the units quoted in the Western Australian handbook have been superseded by the units of competency that we are currently being offered). Click here.

Once all assessments are successfully completed, participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of

Why Choose QMS Audits
Trainers who are practising food safety auditors
All our trainers are Exemplar Global registered food safety auditors. Our courses are only run by practicing audit professionals from the food industry.
National and International Recognition
Don’t risk having to repeat the course because it was not delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO ID 45344) with Exemplar Global Recognition.
This course is also recognised by SQFI. For further details of becoming an SQF Food Safety Auditor, please contact SQFI directly.

Templates supplied in all our courses
We won’t leave you guessing. We supply the templates that make it easier to implement your real-world knowledge. The Lead Auditor Course includes audit plan templates and checklists for BRC,
SQF and ISO 22000.
Real course materials for the real world
Our case studies and assessments are based on real-life practical examples. The ubiquitous chicken producer case study does not get a look in unless a chicken producer attending the course raises it in class discussion.
Class discussion promoted throughout training
Become a food safety auditor with real-world knowledge. We actively promote class discussion throughout the training so learners leave with the practical knowledge to become food safety auditors.
